Briane Faletto Class A Golf Course Superintendent

Well the temperatures are finally rising! We hope you have been able to enjoy the course. It’s that time of the year when the temperatures get higher and the turf goes through the winter transition and starts to grow and keeps us busy mowing. We have lowered all the heights of cut down to the normal summer heights. Roughs are mown at 1& 1/4” inches. Fairways have been widened and are being mowed at .500. Tees and collars are all at .500. Greens are finally down to .120.

The greens have been going through a transition from winter to spring. This time of the year we are pushing the greens to grow, so fertilizers are put out to encourage growth. When they start growing, they will slow down a bit, but with cutting, some-times double cutting, and rolling we try to keep the speeds at 10 on the stimp meter. Once the temperatures are a steady 60 at night and 80 during the day, we will start our weekly verti-cutting and topdressing.

Ewing Irrigation Company will be here on May 13th to conduct an Irrigation Audit on our greens irrigation system. This will help us determine if we need to make adjust-ments to the system to ensure the most efficient watering is being done. We have some greens where we struggle to get enough water on them in a consistent time frame. This audit is a great tool to help us improve the quality of the greens.

Hope to see you on the course!!!
