I hope everyone is staying cool during this heat spell. As of this writing we have not had any rain since May 12th and things are starting to dry up. When this kind of dry spell hits us we have to start being conservative with our water. We move water from all the ponds to the irrigation pond and start cutting back on the water in roughs. Hopefully we will get some rain soon. It’s crazy how much changed from last year. We had almost ten inches of rain last May and only 3 inch-es this year, with that coming in 2 days. We have had no rain since May 12th and we have had 14 straight days of 90 degree temperatures.

We had an irrigation audit completed on our greens in May. We had representatives from Ewing Irrigation Company and RainBird come in and advise us as to some solutions for the lack of water on some areas of our greens, especially greens 1-5, 13, & 14. They suggested some new nozzles, with a lower trajectory and some that throw a further water curtain. We will install those nozzles as soon as they come in to improve our water efficiency.

We installed new Zeon Zoysia on some troublesome tees in May. We stripped the old sod, cleaned and leveled, added sand and then laid the sod. We then thoroughly soaked the sod to remove any air from under the sod to ensure good adherence to the tee top. We put some temporary tees next to the tee tops, sorry for this inconvenience.

A reminder that the course will be closed on Tuesday, June 18th for greens aerification. We will also be doing tees and fairways that week so we apologize for any inconvenience. This will help with the long term health of the turf!
